Mohammed Alkali

Managing Director/CEO, North East Development Commission (NEDC)

Mr. Mohammed Alkali is the MD/CEO of The North East Development Commission (NEDC) in Nigeria. The NEDC is the apex coordinating agency charged with the responsibility to coordinate and harmonize all intervention programmes towards rebuilding the Northeast part of Nigeria that has been ravaged by the Boko Haram Insurgency in the last 10 years. He leads the organizations mandated to drive sustainable development in the region. He started his career in 1983 as a lecturer with the University of Maiduguri and later joined the Banking Industry in 1988, during the course of his 25 years in the Banking Sector, he gained experience in commercial, investment, and development finance. He is a member of many professional bodies and committees and has been involved in many ad-hoc assignments. Before his appointment as the MD/CEO of the North East Development Commission(NEDC), he served as Executive Director(ED) Operations, Bank of Industry (BoI), in Nigeria for eight years. He voluntarily retired from the Bank of Industry in July 2016. Mr. Alkali is a first-class honors degree holder in Accountancy from Bayero University, Kano State. He also holds a Master of Science degree in Accounting and Finance from the London School of Economics at the University of London, United Kingdom. He is an alumnus of the prestigious Harvard Business School, Harvard University; the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago; and the Columbia Business School at Columbia University.
